DIY - How to build a Pallet Sofa

O prometido é devido! Agora que está na varanda há já alguns dias e deu provas de aguentar chuva e sol, sinto-me confortável para partilhar o tutorial do sofá de paletes. Os créditos deste DIY são do Pai. Para que conste, eu apenas dei bitaites (como sou boa nisso!) e escolhi as almofadas. 

Now that our pallet sofa has been on the balcony for quite a few days, I feel comfortable to share the tutorial with you.

Material:

2 paletes | 2 pallets
5 rodízios (dos quais 2 têm travão) | 5 castors (2 that swiveled with locks)
Lixa (em alternativa poderão usar uma máquina de lixar) | Sandpaper
Primário para madeira| Primer for wood
Tinta | Paint
Trincha | Paint brush
Rolo | Paint roller
Tabuleiro | Paint tray
Parafusos | Bolts

#1 Para um acabamento mais uniforme, lixam-se as paletes antes de pintar.
#2 Passa-se o primário sobre toda a superfície das paletes. Aplicar o primário é fundamental porque faz com que a tinta adira melhor à superfície e actua como selante (particularmente na madeira que é um material poroso). Deixa-se secar.

#3 Pinta-se toda a superfície das paletes. Deixa-se secar bem e dá-se uma segunda de mão. Deixa-se secar, novamente.
#4 Com cuidado para não estragar a pintura, colocam-se os rodízios na base de uma das paletes: um em cada canto e o quinto ao centro para distribuir o peso. Os rodízios que têm travão devem ficar à frente.
#5 Prendem-se as paletes uma à outra de lado, utilizando parafusos.
#6 Colocam-se almofadas a gosto. Se preferirem podem usar uma almofada feita à medida.
Agora é só sentar e disfrutar do vosso belo sofá! 

#1 For a smooth finish, sand the pallet before applying the paint.
#2 Use a primer before painting. Using a primer on wood is mandatory mainly because wood is very porous and will absorb the solvent from paint, drying the paint prematurely. Let the primer dry.
#3 Paint the pallets. Let it dry and paint again. Let it dry.
#4 Carefully place your casters on each corner and at the middle of the base of one pallet. The casters with lock must stay at front.
#5 Attach the two pallets together using the bolts.
#6 Decorate with cushions. If you prefer you may use a mattress.
Now just lay back and enjoy your brand new sofa!

Notas soltas: Optámos por empilhar 2 paletes para que o sofá ficasse com a mesma altura de qualquer outro. Sofás muito baixos tornam-se desconfortáveis no momento de sentar e levantar. Mas a decisão é vossa! Podem obter o mesmo efeito apenas com uma palete.

Os rodízios dão altura e permitem mover facilmente o sofá. Também aqui, podem optar por não os utilizar. 

Adittional information: 

We choose to use two pallets so that the sofa would have the same height as any other. Low sofas can become uncomfortable when you sit and stand. But the decision is yours! The same effect can be obtained with only a pallet. 

Casters give height and make it easier to move the sofa around. But you may also choose not to use them.

Quando entramos no Hotel da Estrela não conseguimos deixar de reparar neles. Mas, o que sobressai nestes sofás é a forma desconcertante como o estilo clássico é quebrado pelo trabalho em patchwork.

Combine este sofá com outras peças de linhas direitas e minimalistas. Opte por tons neutros (creme, taupe ou cinza) e texturas. Poderá também adicionar pequenos apontamentos de cor, nos tons do sofá.

When we arrive at Hotel da Estrela it is impossible not to notice it. Trendy and funny, they enforce their presence in a natural way.

Their name is Chesterfield because of their British style with capitonné, its most notorious feature. However, the thing that stands out in these couches is the remarkable way in which the classic style is combined with patchwork. 

Match this couch with straight lined and minimalistic pieces. Choose neutral hues (cream, taupe or grey) and textures. You can also add small colorful notes as long as they go with the couch’s hue.

No doubt that it is a emotional piece. We love them. What about you?
